Want to Work for a Fun and Friendly Company?

Fun and Friendly

Today I made a critical decision in my life. I will ONLY work for a company that is fun and friendly. I mean, life is too short to spend a third of your waking hours in an un-fun, not-so-friendly company, right?

So I searched nationwide for all jobs with the word “fun” in them using Simply Hired, a terrific website that aggregates job listings from company websites and job boards. Then I searched for “friendly.” Last, I searched for “fun” AND “friendly.”

Here’s what I discovered.

Did you realize that as of Thursday, June 24th, they’re 130, 684 open jobs with the word “fun” included in the title or description? Clearly, there’s hope for America in these dismal times when so many fun jobs are available. Think about it. Wouldn’t you want to work for a fun company or have a job title with the word “fun” in it?

So as a public service to you, my loyal readers, I’m going to share some of the fun jobs I found.

Fun Jobs (130,684)

  • Super fun Educator (vs. a deadly dull one)
  • Nanny for 2 Fun Kids (yeah, I bet your kids stick needles into voodoo dolls)
  • Fun – Jewels – Cash (O.k., this is a job I might apply for)
  • Bartending: Money, Fun and Friends (Wonder who’s doing the drinking)
  • Video Game Demonstrator – Fun Opportunity!!! (I don’t think you’d want to hire a video game person who wasn’t fun.)
  • Pet Groomer Needed for Fun Salon! (Gotta keep your cat entertained; so you better take her to a fun place or else)
  • CRM Consultant – Incentive Compensation Fun (I think that means you don’t make any money but you have a hell of a good time)
  • Advanced Nurse Practitioner (Mental Health) – Fun (Sure, yeah)
  • Laugh have fun and make money! (Where do I apply?)
  • Spokane, the best place for fun and work (I’ve been to Spokane. Work, yes. Fun, no)
  • Slim, Sexy and Fun Housekeepers Needed (Hmm…I wonder how much cleaning is required)
  • Senior Manager of Development – Fun – for Catholic Hospice (You must be kidding)
  • Payoff that holiday debt the fun way!!! (Is this one of those consolidation companies?)
  • Jungle Fun Store Manager in Honolulu (Hey, any job in Hawaii is fine with me, especially at Jungle Fun)
  • Mortgage Officer needed for a fun to work company in Gainesville (Thank you very much, next)
  • Looking for someone who likes to work hard and have FUN in the garden (planting petunias, I guess)

Out of the 75 or so job openings I reviewed, there were quite a few for nanny’s to take care of children–and all the children, naturally, were fun kids. While I can’t say I found a lot of job titles with the word “fun” in them–like “Director of Fun Bill Collecting”–clearly they’re a lot of smart advertisers out there who know that “fun” is in and un-fun is not cool.

Friendly Jobs (193,935)

  • Friendly Receptionist (Probably the first requirement on the list; you wouldn’t want the opposite, you know “What do you want, Sir!”)
  • Friendly People (for Rainsoft, the home water company; you guessed right; sales)
  • Golf Friendly Sales Opportunity (Probably offers a break at the 17th hole)
  • Boarding for Friendly Cocker Spaniel (Would you board a mean Cocker Spaniel?)
  • Hiring Friendly Faces (Get that scowl off your face)
  • Practice in a Friendly Missouri Town (ob/gyn doc job; Missouri is kind of friendly; if I were an ob/gyn, I’d take it)
  • SEO Friendly/Hypnotic Product Descriptions (This is an Elance job; totally baffling, but you better be friendly)
  • User Friendly Engineer (calm, cool and collected) (Not very original copy writing but it’s engineering; so who cares?)

Fun AND Friendly jobs didn’t do so well (only 25,148). So if you’re looking for both, you’re out of luck. Better choose one or the other.

Speaking of friendly, SimplyHired advertisers reveal how “friendly” they are to certain applicant types, such as “diversity friendly,” etc.

Friendly Filters

  • Veteran Friendly = 15,727 (Must have veterans, yes, agreed)
  • Diversity Friendly = 6,433 (I believe this refers to culture and race)
  • GLBT Friendly = 5,545 (I think you know about this one)
  • Socially Responsible = 3,731 (Isn’t it incredible that fewer than 4,000 employers are socially responsible? Ah….hem…..)
  • Dog Friendly = 1,162 (Guess you can bring you dog to work, unless you own an unfriendly Cocker Spaniel)
  • Green = 839 (Conclusion: to hell with the environment; let’s make money!)
  • Age 50+ = 103 (Sad, very sad; when you’re over the hill, guys and gals, good luck)

I hope you found this socially responsible post useful and you now know they’re lots of fun and friendly places to work. Clearly, we don’t have an unemployment problem at all in this country. Just be fun, friendly and smile at your next interview.
